Treatment Approach
Behavioral Therapy
Behavior Therapy is focused on helping an individual understand how changing their behavior can lead to changes in how they are feeling. The goal of behavior therapy is usually focused on increasing the person’s engagement in positive or socially reinforcing activities. Behavior therapy is a structured approach that carefully measures what the person is doing and then seeks to increase chances for positive experience. Common techniques include: self-monitoring, role-playing and behavior modification.
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is based on a dialectical and biosocial theory of a psychological disorder that emphasizes the role of difficulties in regulating emotions, both under and over control, and behavior. The overall goal of DBT skills training is to help individuals change behavioral, emotional, thinking, and interpersonal patterns associated with problems in living.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) approaches emphasize learning to recognize and change maladaptive thought patterns and behaviors, improve how feelings and worries are handled, and break the cycle of dysfunctional habitual behaviors. This perspective helps people see the connection between how they think, what they tell themselves, and the feelings and actions that follow.
Solution Focused Brief (SFBT)
Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) is future-focused, goal-directed, and focuses on solutions, rather than on the problems that brought clients to seek therapy. With SFBT, the conversation is directed toward developing and achieving the client’s vision of solutions.
Pet Therapy
If requested and when this would be a beneficial treatment approach, pet therapy is an option. Examples of this include having therapist bring her cat to the office and/or meeting client at nearby park so he/she could bring his/her dog to walk during session. Clients pets are NOT permitted at office.
